This program of academic discipline establishes minimum requirements for knowledge and skills of the student and determines the content and types of studies and reporting.
The program is designed for teachers, leading this discipline, teaching assistants and students directions 032100.62 enrolled in an undergraduate program studying discipline Introduction to Oriental studies.

The goal of learning the discipline
The aim of the course is a basic course for students enrolled in the specialty “Oriental studies, African studies”, specializing in Korea and aims at instilling the basic skills, concepts and knowledge about the history, social, cultural and spiritual traditions of Korea. The course is designed for students who are just starting their familiarity with Korea, and does not require prior in-depth cross-cultural training. However, the course implies basic knowledge of the students of the Korean language and reading of simple texts in Korean.
In General, the course examines major cultural and historical patterns of Korea in the dynamics of their development. Special attention is paid to how cultural and regional traditions, local customs, forms of intercultural communication, the social dynamics of Korean society. The course does not focus on one specific historical period, but shows which traditions are ingrained in society which are in transformation, and which disappeared completely.
The course “Introduction to Asian studies” is divided into two parts, which are studied in parallel – Part 1 in the form of lectures, Part 2 in the form of lectures and seminars
Part 1. “Basic concepts and features of Oriental studies” devoted to the main methods and forms of Oriental studies, the history of the development of Oriental studies, conceptual approaches to the study of the East. This topic is studied in the form of General lectures to all the students of the flow, regardless of language group and region of specialization
Part 2. “Overview of the region of specialization” devoted to private development of the study region, including geography and natural resources, ethnolinguistic composition of the population, peculiarities of spiritual-religious, cultural, historical, economic, political and social development. In this part the student should acquire the basic background information of the studied country without going into the private aspects, which will further be studied as separate courses. This part is studied within the seminar groups formed on the basis of language.
Thus, on completion of the course the student should possess knowledge in the field of Oriental studies methodology and General information about the area of specialization
